Child Soldiers

In Africa, child soldiers is a big problem. There are as many as 300,000 children under the age of 18 serve in government forces or armed rebel groups. Some of these children are as young as eight years old. Children this young are easy to persuade to become soldiers because of their emotional and physical immaturity. Also, child soldiers became more popular because of the technological advances in weaponry. You can now get lightweight automatic weapons that are easy to operate, often easily accessible, and can be used by children as easy as adults.

Children are also more likely to become child soldiers if they are poor, separated from their families, displaced from their homes, living in a combat zone or have limited access to education. Others who are very vulnerable to recruitments are orphans and refugees. Many children join armed groups because of economic or social pressure, or because the children believe that the group will provide them with food and security.

Boys and girls are both reported to be child soldiers. One third of the child soldiers are reported to be girls. The girls may be raped or given to military commanders as wives.

Child soldiers usually serve as porters or cooks, guards, messengers or spies. However, many children are forced to the front lines or sent into minefields ahead of older troops. Some children have even been used for suicide missions.

Homesourcing

Homesourcing might start to be a growing trend. It might because it has many advantages. Homesourcing allows you to have a job and work from your home. Because of this, you wouldn’t have to get ready or look presentable, and you can do your work in your pajamas if you really wanted to. Also, you would be home to start cooking, watching your household and family, and do some chores in between.

Homesourcing definitely benefits your family because you could be home to watch your kids and not have to pay for a babysitter or daycare. Also, you would be home to do laundry, dishes, cook, and other chores. However, there are also a couple disadvantages to homesourcing. For example, you could get easily distracted which may cause you not to finish your work. Also, your children could possibly be a big distraction, and if they are young and need attention or need to be constantly watched, then this could also be a difficult task. Another problem is that it could cut you out of the world. It could possibly take your social life away, which is not a good thing.

Homesourcing would also help save money in many ways. Since you wouldn’t have to drive to work everyday, you would save a lot of money on gas. Also, since you wouldn’t have to hire a babysitter or send your kids to daycare, this could also save you a lot of money. You would also save money on buying work clothes because you don’t need to look nice if your working from home.

Grizzly Man

The documentary Grizzly Man, by Werner Herzog, was very fascinating. It was about Timothy Treadwell and his life with the bears. Timothy Treadwell reminds me a lot of Steve Irwin because they both have a great love for a specific animal. With Treadwell it’s bears, and with Irwin it’s crocodile. I personally think many people envy people like Timothy Treadwell and Steve Irwin. I think people envy this because they might be jealous that these two men are so passionate about something. I also feel like people are very interested in hearing about their lives, especially Timothy Treadwell’s. I feel this way because Treadwell is a fascinating person and very unique. He stands out from the crowd. People like to hear about him because not many people live with bears.

Even though it’s unusual to think of someone wanting to live with bears, I don’t think Treadwell is all that insane. Many people think he is insane not only because he lives with bears, but also because of the way he acts with them. On camera, you will see him talking to the bears, telling them how much he loves them, and he talks crazy at times. This includes swearing at the animals. Also, he gets random thoughts and just says what is on his mind. If I was in the woods alone for a whole summer, I admit that I would talk crazy and to animals, and also to myself. Being by yourself and being lonely is a difficult task to accomplish, and you simply need to find ways to entertain yourself. I also think it’s because he is so passionate about bears. Everybody is passionate about something, and Timothy Treadwell’s passion is bears. Even if Treadwell survived the day that he was attacked by a bear, I’m almost certain that he would still continue to live with the bears.
